About Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) :

One of the 12 units in the national agricultural research system (NARS) under the Ministry of Agriculture in Bangladesh, BARI is the largest multi-crop research organization that extended its support to the SRFSI project backing surveys and characterization studies in Rajshahi and Rangpur Districts.Together with RDRS and the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), BARI helped select and hire field technicians for Rangpur and Rajshahi. BARI also helped initiate an innovation platform (IP) in Rajshahi district incorporating farmers, researchers, change agents (public and private) and other agents representing key components of the principal value chains of the local farming systems.

BARI supported SRFSI on-farm adaptive research trials and associated studies in selected communities in Rajshahi, helped manage technology demonstration plots and provide technical support to RDRS in collaboration and management of on-farm research in the Rangpur District. Along with preparing summary reports on demonstration, extension and out-scaling results for the nodes, BARI also helped conduct crop, soil and system scenario analysis in collaboration with CSIRO (Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and industrial Research Organization) scientists.

In coordination with CIMMYT and other project partners, BARI conducted participatory evaluation in Rajshahi District of relevant agricultural equipment and prototypes, and also prepared courses for technical staff, service providers and agro-dealers in Rajshahi with a maximum of 10 days of capacity building exercises. BARI also helped manage technology validation and learning modules in Rajshahi district. In addition, BARI extended their support to SRFSI in the integration of CASI technologies in Bangladesh scaling programs, building institutional capacity around scaling of CASI technologies, engaging in ToT and farmer outreach program primarily in Rajshahi and Rangpur region, help exchange knowledge and experience with CSISA and other related projects, and enhance the capacities of SRFSI communities in Bangladesh.
